Finances As Your Health Bar
Managing money is boring but it's better than burying your head in the sand.
Do you know how many months of cash you are sitting on if your income suddenly stopped tomorrow?
Most people don't and that's a problem.
Especially those who live paycheque to paycheque.
Then, a family emergency, your pet's medical bill or a sudden layoff.
Suddenly, your financial health bar flashes red and you are one hit from game over.
And it's too late.
You're scrambling for cover, desperately searching for extra lives.
Does that sound like someone who has their shit together?
I've been there because I ignored the basics.
I think it is far better to embrace the boring, unsexy, mundane habits of tracking your money than just winging it.
Your finances are like your health bar in a video game.
If it's trending lower, you know you must change your strategy.
If it's trending high, then you're levelling up and can allocate funds to build a safety net.
But knowing this trend is key.
How are you doing this month compared to last? What about this quarter or year?
Tracking your numbers helps you be prepared.
It allows you to plan ahead and keep an eye on your current standing. It helps build backup funds for a rainy day or for bigger life emergencies to keep your game going strong.
Money shouldn't be awkward to talk about.
And I think this needs to change.
